Heart of Stone edition by Aislinn Kerry Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

It was interesting however I felt like I would like to have seen more expanded upon in the story. It could easily become a series if done correctly
I have never had a romance novel bring me to the edge of tears. This was so beautifully written and really tugged at the heart strings. As brief as it was, I fell in love with the characters and truly enjoyed their witty exchanges. You need to read this!
I've been on a Gargoyle/Beauty and the Beast theme reading kick lately and thought I'd give this gargoyle story a go.

First off, I didn't realise this was erotica or that it was a short story. (At the price, I thought it was a novella--my bad). And I'm not a huge fan of short stories, or pure erotica. (I'm a hypocrite--I love Ms Dohner's New Species (Fury, Slade, Valiant, Justice)Fury (New Species, Book One) novels and they are erotica, but the novel length of her work allows for emotional growth between the characters. Plus they have a good action packed plot too.)
Anyways, Heart of Stone by Aislinn Kerry isn't a badly written story. I liked the concept, and the opening. I even like the dark Halloween (gothic) tone of the piece. It takes place in a cemetery (lol) love it. I also liked the ending. Great cover btw.

The Bad It was too short for any kind of character development, growth or depth. I didn't like the violent sex. (Blood=pain. Eek!) I like a little love among the lust. The entire middle is mostly sex--and sex does not make plot.

I think this could have been a very awesome concept for a novel--more character development, worldbuilding, a plot--would have done a world of good for this concept.
I have read this b book many times and I haven't got tired of it yet. I have even got my friends to read it
I really enjoyed Heart of Stone. I wish Ms. Kerry delved more deeply into the H's background and into the h's money problems and what she wouldn't tell him on their second night together. But all in all, this was a fabulous short story.
Originally I had hoped for more, but have to say I did enjoy this story. Kestrel stumbles upon a gargoyle in a cemetary and it comes to life. Damaris is under a curse, placed on him for a rather selfish reason, and only has one night a year to breathe and move.

As the other reviews noted, the story plot in the middle does drag at times. I would have liked if Kestrel had spent some time trying to find a way to break the spell, too. Some of the characters could have either been developed, dropped from the story, or written in such a way as not to have left the reader wondering more about them since they were not important anyway. The erotic scenes were sufficient, as I am not a fan of fisting...

I enjoyed the overall plot and despite the exceptions to the story I mentioned previously, still found the story able to sincerely convey the tale of two lonely people meeting and unconventionally falling in love.
I guess the best way to classify this book would be an erotic fairy tale for the goth crowd. It's a short story (823 units) about a woman who discovers a gargoyle type statue in a cemetery on Halloween and inadvertently brings it to life. We go on to learn that the gargoyle Damaris was once a man who was cursed into his current state and can only come alive once a year on All Hollow's Eve.

Like in many fairy tales there's a lack of details. You really don't know the heroine or the hero. It's more the outline of the story that matters. The romance shared, the sacrifices made, and where they all end up because of it.

That being said, the sexual interludes made up the meat of the book and I didn't find them to be particularly enticing. For the most part they sounded damn uncomfortable, what with the pain, blood, and err fists... And then the ending was bitter sweet, rather poetic but I was disappointed the heroine didn't use her massive amount of free time toward some research on gargoyle-curse-breaking-for-dummies.

Overall Rating meh
